Eagle Butte Woman Arraigned on Larceny and Burglary Charges

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that an Eagle Butte woman has been indicted by a federal grand jury for First Degree Burglary and Larceny.

Jocelyn J. Chasing Hawk, age 30, was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 12, 2012. She appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on June 29, 2012, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 25 years' imprisonment on the burglary charge and 5 years' imprisonment on the larceny charge. Both charges include a $250,000 fine and a 3 year period of supervised release. The charges are merely accusations, and Chasing Hawk is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Cheyenne River Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Morley is prosecuting the case. Chasing Hawk was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not yet been set.
